SOUTH AMERICAN TOPSCORERS REVEALED

Bolivia striker Marcelo Morales is the unlikely leader for the Golden Boot in the South American region ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 tournament. His goals have been crucial for the Bolivians who still have hopes of making it to the tournament in Qatar with four qualifying matches left to play. Morales is ahead of more illustrious names such as Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez and many more in the race for the Golden Boot.

The Bolivians stunned a lot of football stakeholders when they thrashed Uruguay at home in the last World Cup 2022 in November to boost their hopes of making it to Qatar next year. Cruzeiro striker Marcelo Morales scored one of the goals as Bolivia beat the Uruguayans 3-0. His goal took his World Cup 2022 qualifying tally to nine goals as he moved further away from the Paris Saint Germain (PSG) duo of Neymar and Messi. Apart from Morales, Juan Carlos Arce also scored against Uruguay. Arce scored a brace either side of the interval to lead his team to an important victory and take his own World Cup 2022 qualifying tally to three goals.

Neymar was on seven goals before the last set of qualifiers in the South American region, but he was absent due to injury. The PSG star had to sit out the blockbuster game with Argentina during the last set of qualifiers last month due to a thigh injury picked up during the slim win over Colombia.

For Messi, the petite Argentine player led his country out during the home clash with Brazil which ended in a goalless draw. Argentina were able to seal their place at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament with the result though a win would have been much better. Messi was unable to add to his six goals during the ongoing qualifying campaign for the World Cup tournament in Qatar.
